In a typical home, there are a number of rooms in which the corners end up being underutilized to a high degree. One example is of the living room. A regular bookshelf may not end up flush against a corner of a wall. However, if you got a specialized corner bookshelf, the result will be different. Another room that could benefit from a corner shelving unit is the bathroom. If you have a small bathroom like I do, then you'll know that being cramp in it is not a good feeling at all. If I were you, I would get a floating corner shelf which would simply hang on the corner of the wall.

If you are renting an apartment and can't nick the walls or hang objects, use two tall narrow bookcases on either side of the window to hang a curtain rod in between. In one "unit" you will have shelf space and a window covering! Have household goods that need a little hiding? Fill your shelves with pretty baskets, which can hold items like remote controls, cleats, plastic bags, and so on. And if you have items that you wish to show off, ditch the baskets and give your books a run for their money; pair them with your trophies, photo albums, framed art, or toy trains. Use the tops of arm-level shelves to place your keys, wallet, or purse when you first walk in the door. Having a space where you can always put down your personal belongings will help prevent misplaced items and hopefully keep you from having to crawl around the entryway in search of your keychain.

Yes, it is called a corner bookcase, but that doesn't mean that it has to be put in the corner of a room. Its unique shape allows it to be placed next to anything that has a right angle. For instance, if you have the luxury of a spacious room, you could place it next to an armoire or cabinet. If the two pieces match stylistically, this will look like a natural extension and will give the room continuity.

They are two different kinds of floating bookcases. One is hung up on the wall above the ground giving it the appearance that is floating. The second is designed so that once the books are stacked the shelving sort of disappears making the books appear to be floating in thin air. These are good for small spaces as they are less obvious and make the room seem larger.

These scrolls were usually inscribed by hand and so their production was quite costly. Religious institutions, libraries and ancient universities prized the books highly. These necessitated the need for specialized containers or boxes which were easily accessible for easy referencing. Initially the shelved containers were much deeper and separated into many compartments for easier access. The shelving was usually hidden away in closets that blended with the home decor or in private study rooms.

Again, this is easy with a cube-type bookcase, as baskets filled with goodies can be placed in the cubes; another idea is to just wrap gifts and set them in the spaces, which is especially nice for homes with limited floor space.

Some of the newer barrister bookcases may cost less but they are not as well made and will not hold up over time as well as the older barrister bookcases made out of better quality wood. The glass in the doors of the newer models is also not going to be as good quality nor are the other parts like handles and hinges. You can tell a good barrister bookcase by looking at the joints, which should be dove-tailed or attached in another traditional way and not with screws or nails like the newer bookcases.
